Alstom Pay Freeze – Rail Industry

Dear Colleagues

Alstom Pay Freeze – Rail Industry

I can report that Alstom has advised the RMT that due to the continuing coronavirus crisis they will be implementing a companywide pay freeze in 2020. Alstom declared an operating profit of €730 million for 2018/19 and have assets worth €13.4 billion. This is a disgrace, substantial profits have been made and your union believes that all the hard work that you have done should be properly rewarded.

Having taken into consideration the views of your Lead Officer and elected Representatives, the union’s National Executive Committee has instructed me to inform the company that they should respect all pay anniversary dates and commit to meaningful pay negotiations with this union at Alstom RS&S (West Coast). This instruction has been carried out and I have informed Alstom that a dispute situation now exists between our organisations.

I am now making the necessary preparations for a ballot for industrial action and urge members to ensure that their contact and employment details are current and accurate. This may be done via the website's e-services accessible from or by calling the Helpline on 0800 376 3706 or by e-mailing

I trust this keeps you fully advised on the matter and I will, of course, keep you informed on any further developments.

Yours sincerely

Mick Lynch
Senior Assistant General Secretary
