ALTERATION TO PORTSMOUTH-RYDE TIMETABLE, EXTENDED TRAVELLING TIME – WIGHTLINK
I recently wrote to Wightlink outlining my concerns regarding Wightlink’s recent alteration to the Portsmouth-Ryde route timetable. As you will be aware, many members working on this route travel home on the last ferry after their shift has concluded; therefore, the modified time of the service has led to extended travelling time for members. I reminded the company that their operations are only functioning as a result of your goodwill and your loyalty to Wightlink. However, both of these resources are finite.
I can report that since this intervention, Wightlink has agreed to charter a vessel to ensure that RMT members are able to travel back to the Isle of Wight after they have completed their shift. This is a temporary measure whilst negotiations for a long term arrangement continue. Your Representatives will remain vigilant over this issue and will continue to monitor the situation.
I trust this keeps you fully advised on the matter and I will, of course, inform you of any further developments should they arise.
