Dear RMT Member
APPOINTMENT OF ADMINISTRATORS – TXM PLANT LTD
I am sure it was a great shock for you and your colleagues at TXM Plant Ltd yesterday when the news broke that the company had entered administration with immediate effect. It is a shock and concern for your future employment that I obviously share.
I would like to not only convey my sympathy to RMT members at TXM Plant over this situation but to also assure you that your union is doing everything possible to defend your interests and secure such a highly skilled and experienced workforce within the railway industry.
The collapse of TXM is not only of obvious concern to you and your colleagues, but also has ramifications for the railway generally as it is a major supplier of equipment for the industry throughout Britain. For that reason, I have today written to Network Rail over this matter and asked the company what steps it is taking to secure such jobs within Britain’s railway and how it is going to ensure that the supply of equipment carried out by TXM Plant will continue not just in the immediate future but also long term.
Your union will also be meeting with the administrators first thing on Monday morning next week to seek assurances regarding the immediate livelihood of the workforce and on what steps are being taken to find a new buyer or funding for the company.
I shall also be engaging with the RMT Parliamentary Group as the crisis at TXM Plant is not unique but has come about as a direct result of the government underfunding a vital service such as the railways over many years.
I would expect further developments to arise early next week when more information is available to us.
In the meantime, I know this situation is very worrying for you and your colleauges, for your families and your communities. As I say above, your union will be doing all it can to defend our members’ interests in this matter.
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
