BREACH OF DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURES – W PENNY – GUARD - MERSEYRAIL

Our Ref BR2/4/4

17th August 2017

Dear Colleagues,

BREACH OF DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURES – W PENNY – GUARD - MERSEYRAIL

I write in relation to the recent sacking of RMT rep William Penny who has been sacked by Merseyrail on what we believe to be trumped up charges. He has been accused of breaching the Bullying and Harassment Procedure as well as the Social Media policy but he completely refutes that he has done anything wrong.

Brother Penny is a very active RMT representative who has been heavily involved in the long running and bitter Driver Only Operation dispute. We have no doubt that his trade union activities have made him a target for management and believe that his dismissal is no coincidence. RMT will not tolerate any rep being attacked by a hostile management so the NEC has decided to ballot all Guards and Drivers for strike action and action short of a strike. Voting papers will be sent to you from Thursday 24th August 2017.

It is vitally important that members vote strongly in favour of action in support of Brother Penny who has been so appallingly treated by Merseyrail. An attack on one is an attack on all! Merseyrail must be left in no doubt we demand Brother Penny’s immediate reinstatement.

If you or any of your colleagues have not received your voting paper by Tuesday 5th September 2017 please contact the Helpline on 0800 376 3706 or by email info@rmt.org.uk and a replacement will be sent our First Class that day.

SUPPORT WILL PENNY!
UNITY IS STRENGTH

Yours sincerely
