Dear Colleague,

BREAKDOWN IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS – ATALIAN SERVEST (LNER CONTRACT)

Ballot papers for industrial action against the clear breakdown in industrial relations with Servest should have now arrived. If you have not done so already, please make sure you return your paper to reach the Scrutineer by the closing date of Tuesday 2nd February 2021.

You will have no doubt received the company’s latest attempts at undermining our dispute. As you will see this is nothing short of a pathetic attempt at spreading misinformation and providing poor excuses to the real issues that you and your colleagues are facing.

There is no question that pay irregularities are still common at all locations. It is difficult to understand why the company are unable to provide payslips a week in advance, especially as this was something done by previous employers. The company cannot justify the reasons for having some items listed as hourly and others as daily or weekly. This varying breakdown only adds to the issues and the company need to take our concerns seriously. The payslips are confusing and are often filled with incorrect payments and errors. The response from the company is insulting and does nothing to resolve the issues.

Atalian Servest’s reliance on the Timegate system is a real cause for concern. Management have not taking into consideration the varying levels of computer skills, the fact that not everyone has access to smart phones and that the Timegate system is riddled with errors. The application is not easy to work and there is no excuse for the old annual leave system (completing a holiday card) to not be reintroduced. Atalian Servest are also forcing the Timegate app for the use of Signing in and out, again, not taking into consideration a number of varying issues. The answer is simple, do not change something that is working, the old system of signing in and out must continue to be used.

Atalian Servest’s letter is sickening and their deplorable attempts at threatening you and your colleagues are shameful. All industrial trade disputes and the act of taking industrial is a breach of contract. This is not new information. However, the company are attempting to spread fear and misinformation. Instead of threatening you and your colleagues the company should be providing you with support. This is a lawful industrial ballot and you have the right to use your democratic vote and to take strike action.

You are key workers, working on the frontline during a global pandemic, and, your vital work ensures the transport industry can continue to operate smoothly. There is no doubt that you have gone above and beyond what is asked of you. To use the pandemic as a threat to you and your colleagues is nothing short of deplorable. The union asked the company to provide an ex-gratia payment as a demonstration of the company’s appreciation for all the hard work you have undertaken during this difficult time. The company’s response was to blankly stare at your representatives and shrug off any calls for a reward. These are not the actions of a company with the interests of their employees at heart, but that of a company who are more concerned about their profits. Atalian Servest would be better off getting round the table and discussing this dispute with your union.

The letter from Atalian Servest should be everything you need to know about their attitude towards you. The company’s letter is insulting, threatening and degrading. We cannot allow management to get away with this behaviour.

Therefore, If you have not received your ballot paper already then please e-mail info@rmt.org.uk as soon as possible, alternatively, you can call the RMT Freephone helpline on 0800 376 3706. It is imperative that we get a massive return in the ballot.

I urge you not to waste your vote and to vote YES for industrial action.

Important Please Note:  The Scrutineer for RMT Ballots and Elections is now 'Civica Election Services' and not the 'Electoral Reform Society'. Letters from Civica are not Junk Mail and should be opened.
