Dear colleague

BREAKDOWN IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS – MITIE (MERSEYRAIL SOFT SERVICES CONTRACT)

You and your colleagues have delivered a unanimous 11-0 vote in a referendum to accept the company’s proposals to end the long-running dispute with Mitie. The proposals address the fundamental issues at the heart of this dispute – an increase on rates of pay, a change to the calculation of holiday pay which means no-one will receive less than the agreed hourly rate when they are on leave and negotiations rather than imposition of rosters at Liverpool South Parkway.

This shift in management’s position has come about as a result of the display of solidarity and industrial action taken by you and your colleagues to win justice. The resolve you have all shown throughout this dispute once again demonstrates what can be achieved when workers stand together in unity and I, the union’s National Executive Committee and the entire RMT thank you for that.

As this dispute is now ended, you are therefore instructed to work normally on the previously announced strike action days of Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th September.

We hope that the lessons learned by management from this dispute will see a healthier industrial relations environment at Mitie and that negotiations with your representatives will take place rather than management imposing policies to the detriment of staff.

Once again, I thank you for supporting your union throughout this dispute and congratulate you on achieving a just resolution.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
General Secretary
