BREAKDOWN IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS, BIRMINGHAM INTERNATIONAL STATION – AVANTI WEST COAST

 

I write with regards to the above matter and to inform you that I have received a report from the Lead Officer advising of the suspension of our RMT Station Staff Grades Representative, Brother Mawby, from his employment with Avanti West Coast at Birmingham International Station. Brother Mawby has been suspended for allegedly having a heated discussion with the station manager.

 

The RMT believes that Avanti West Coast are negatively targeting our members and suspending them for having disagreements with management and for defending themselves. The RMT is appalled with the treatment of Brother Mawby.

 

Therefore, I have written to Avanti West Coast sending a clear message to management, that the RMT will not tolerate the unreasonable actions from management and will stand by our members when they are being targeted out of a job. An injury to one is an injury to all.

 

I have also requested an update report from the Lead Officer, following conclusion of the investigation meeting regarding Brother Mawby’s suspension.
