Breakdown in Industrial Relations, Edinburgh Depot – Rail Gourmet

Our Ref: HC/14/2

4th February 2019

Dear Colleague,

Breakdown in Industrial Relations, Edinburgh Depot – Rail Gourmet

I am writing in relation to the above matter and where I advised you that despite our best efforts, Rail Gourmet were continuing to make no effort to enter into meaningful talks. I am pleased to announce that due to you and your colleagues’ clear determination and commitment the company have been forced to meet with your union to discuss our concerns.

During our discussions Rail Gourmet accepted that there was an issue of bullying and harassment at the Edinburgh depot and has fully investigated the issues. Your representatives have acknowledged that there is now a significant improvement in the industrial relations situation at the depot, with a clear level of respect being displayed by the company to your representatives. The company and your union have further meetings arranged to ensure no more issues arise.

Therefore, the National Executive Committee has considered this matter and in light of the positive progress has instructed me to suspend the forthcoming industrial action due to take place at 0001 hours on Tuesday 12th February and 2359 hours on Wednesday 13th February 2019. You and your colleagues are instructed to work normally on these days. There is no doubt that the steadfast resolve and clear determination of you and your colleagues has brought about this positive progress.

However, whilst this news is encouraging, we need to remain vigilant that these issues remain resolved and that the company do not renege on their promises. Further meetings are arranged and I am awaiting a report from our Lead Officer on the outcome of these discussions.

I will keep you fully advised once I have further information.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
