Breakdown in Industrial Relations, Edinburgh Depot – Rail Gourmet

Our Ref: HC/14/2

5th March 2019

Dear Colleague,

Further to my previous correspondence and where I advised you that due to your clear determination and commitment the company were forced to meet with the union to discuss our concerns.

I have received reports from our Lead Officer and representatives that the industrial relations position at the depot continues to remain positive. The company and your union are holding regular meetings in order to continue to discuss the overall situation and to ensure that good industrial relations prevail. Additionally, there are no new cases of bullying and harassment and the overall situation that started the dispute has dramatically improved.

The National Executive Committee has considered this matter and after considering the reports from your negotiating team, has decided that we are no longer in dispute with Rail Gourmet over these issues. Therefore, I have informed the company of this decision. Whilst there are unresolved issues regarding pay matters, these are being pursued and discussed under separate negotiations.

However, this dispute is a clear example of how industrial action and solidarity can achieve a positive outcome. You and your colleagues have supported each other tremendously and your determination has brought about this positive change. Whilst we have achieved a positive outcome, we must remain vigilant that these issues remain resolved and that the company do not renege on any promises. Your representatives will continue to meet with the company to ensure these issues are not repeated.

I would like to congratulate you and your colleagues for standing shoulder to shoulder during this dispute. I trust this keeps you fully advised and I will inform you of any further developments should they arise.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
