BREAKDOWN IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS – FREIGHTLINER HEAVY HAUL

Our Ref BR3/14/2

20th July 2017

TO ALL DRIVERS AT FREIGHTLINER HEAVY HAUL

Dear Colleagues

BREAKDOWN IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS – FREIGHTLINER HEAVY HAUL

Your union has today written to Freightliner Heavy Haul advising them there is a breakdown in industrial relations over their treatment of our Train Driver members.

We believe an ongoing culture exists at FHH where the disciplinary process is being used in a draconian manner against drivers. Disciplinary punishments are being used as the first response when mistakes are made instead of using the non-punitive competence development process (CPD). It has always been our view that development and support delivers better outcomes than punitive punishment. In addition there are other cases where drivers have been threatened with managing for attendance following accidents at work despite the fact that the infrastructure was at fault.

As a result of this unacceptable situation the National Executive Committee has declared a dispute and members will be balloted for strike action and industrial action short of a strike. Voting papers will be sent to members from Thursday 27th July 2017 and the ballot will close on Thursday 17th August 2017.

I urge you and your colleagues to vote strongly in favour of action to send the company a clear message we will not tolerate such appalling treatment of drivers.

If you or any of your colleagues do not receive a voting paper by Tuesday 8th August 2017, please contact the National Helpline on 0800 376 3706 or by email to info@rmt.org.uk and a replacement paper will be sent out to you first class.
