BREAKDOWN IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS, RAIL GOURMET – PADDINGTON DEPOT
Firstly, I would like to congratulate you and your colleagues for your solidarity during the recent industrial action. You and your colleagues stood shoulder to shoulder against a company who has shown complete disregard for you, their employees. It is shameful that Rail Gourmet continues to treat you and your colleagues with utter contempt. However, our recent action proved that we stand firm and determined in resolving this dispute.
As you are aware, the union met with Rail Gourmet to try and find a solution to the issues at the heart of this dispute. Whilst some concessions were made on some of the issues the company failed to resolve some key issues at the heart of the dispute, these being:-
Withdrawal or replacement of the two defective tractor units (1 & 17) used by our driver members at Paddington station.
Introduction of an agreed process between the local manager and the RMT Representative for rostering and agreeing changes to rosters.
Correct payment of allowances and bonuses to staff at Paddington.
Payment of night shift allowance for all hours worked between 21.00 and 06.00 hours.
A productivity bonus for all staff who have been required to carry out more onerous duties as a result of the introduction of new Hitachi Class 80xxxx trains from 2018 and who are now required to make collections/deliveries from/to additional platforms at Paddington station with additional frequency under the new GWR timetable from December 2019.
We cannot allow the company to continue with their mistreatment of you and your colleagues and we must now escalate the dispute further. Therefore, the National Executive Committee has considered this matter and has instructed you and your colleagues to take further strike action by not booking on for any shifts that commence between:-
0001 Hours until 2359 Hours on Friday 10th January 2020.
I urge you all to continue to stand united against the company that has treated you and your colleagues with nothing but contempt. We must send them a clear message that until our issues are resolved we will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder. Management need to get around the table and realise that we are determined to have our concerns resolved.
Unity is Strength
