BREAKDOWN IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS – RAIL FOR LONDON INFRASTRUCTURE

Our Ref: LUL/14/2

3rd April 2024

Dear RMT Member,

BREAKDOWN IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS – RAIL FOR LONDON INFRASTRUCTURE

Your RMT Lead Officer recently met with your Reps and Branch Secretary and has reported members dissatisfaction with current working arrangements at Rail for London Infrastructure. The issues raised are as follows:

Roster Principles

  • No consultation has taken place with RMT over new rostering principles which are causing more fragmented rosters with single rest days and increased risk of short notice roster changes.

Pay & Associated Issues

  • No substantial pay increase, to achieve parity with London Underground roles, has been made
  • Training has been delayed, which has prevented members advancing in line with the skills matrix
  • The practice of deducting paid meal breaks from annual leave entitlement is unacceptable
  • The practice of filling potential promotional vacancies from external recruitment, rather than internal promotion is unacceptable

Safe Systems of Work

  • No consultation has taken place with RMT Safety Reps regarding safe systems of work and there has been inadequate planning for potential conflicts between work groups

The National Executive Committee has considered this matter and I have advised the Company that a dispute situation now exists over the above. The Union is available for talks with RfLI to resolve this dispute but in the meantime, I would ask you to make sure that the Union has your correct job title, workplace and home address. If any of these have recently changed, please contact the RMT Freephone Helpline on 0800 376 3706 or info@rmt.org.uk

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch

General Secretary
