BREAKDOWN IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS – RAIL FOR LONDON INFRASTRUCTURE

Our Ref: LUL/14/2

8th May 2024

Dear RMT Member,

BREAKDOWN IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS – RAIL FOR LONDON INFRASTRUCTURE

Following the notification of a dispute situation to the Company over Roster Principles; Pay & Associated Issues and Safe Systems of Work, I received a response stating that RfLI will not be discussing these matters with RMT. This matter has again been considered by the National Executive Committee, which has noted the correspondence and is disappointed at the position taken by the Company.

The ballot for industrial action will therefore now proceed and your ballot paper will be sent in the post tomorrow, Thursday 9th May. The closing date for the ballot is Tuesday 28th May and I urge you to VOTE YES FOR STRIKE ACTION and YES FOR ACTION SHORT OF A STRIKE. If you do not receive your ballot paper by Wednesday 15th May, please contact the RMT Freephone Helpline on 0800 376 3706 or info@rmt.org.uk.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON BALLOT THRESHOLDS

Since the Trade Union Act 2016, where the government made the anti-trade union laws even more restrictive, all ballots have to reach two important thresholds in order for them to be valid.

  • At least 50% of all eligible members must vote
  • At least 40% of all those eligible to vote must vote Yes.

As a result of these draconian restrictions every single vote counts. A simple majority is no longer enough so you cannot rely on other colleagues to get the vote over the line. Therefore, I urge you to complete and return your voting paper as soon as you receive it

Important Please Note:  The independent scrutineer for RMT Ballots and Elections is 'Civica Election Services'.

Letters from Civica are not Junk Mail and should be opened.

VOTE ‘YES’ FOR STRIKE ACTION

VOTE ‘YES’ FOR INDUSTRIAL ACTION SHORT OF STRIKE

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
