Dear Colleague

BREAKDOWN IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS, TRAVEL SHOPS – ABELLIO SCOTRAIL

As you may recall, during March this year the RMT went into dispute with Abellio Scotrail over the company’s design proposals for Glasgow Queen Street Travel Shop. The RMT believed that these proposals were putting you and your colleagues at risk of anti social behaviour and assaults.

Following on from the above and in light of the Covid-19 pandemic the RMT agreed to suspend the ballot for industrial action but remained in dispute with the company.

I can now advise you that I have received an updated report from the Lead Officer indicating that a number of meetings have been held with the union’s Negotiating Team and Scotrail management and a resolution has been reached which is acceptable to you and your colleagues.

The offer guarantees jobs, terms and conditions and protection of salaries and the RMT has also received an assurance that vacancies will be filled. Furthermore, your Union’s Negotiating Team has agreed an additional third window to open during busy times which will help take the strain off the existing two windows.

The Executive Committee has recently considered the matter and notes that our members are satisfied with this outcome and believes this constitutes the best achievable outcome in the circumstances. Therefore, I have informed the company of our acceptance of the proposals.

I trust this keeps you fully advised on the matter.

Best wishes.

Mick Cash
