BREAKDOWN IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS, TERMS & CONDITIONS – SERVEST UK (GWR CONTRACT)

Our Ref: BR1/14/2 13th January 2017

Dear Colleague, FURTHER STRIKE ACTION CALLED

BREAKDOWN IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS, TERMS & CONDITIONS – SERVEST UK (GWR CONTRACT)

Further to my letter dated 11th January 2017, I can advise you that your NEC has considered the latest situation in this dispute and has decided to call further strike action which is outlined below: -

All Servest members are instructed not to book on for any shifts that start between: -

• 05.59 hours on Thursday 19th January 2017 and 05.58 hours on Saturday 21st January 2017

I urge you to continue your magnificent support for your union and brave stand against Servest by fully supporting this strike action. The company has failed to resolve this dispute and discussions have left a large number of issues outstanding. Servest must be left in no doubt we demand they fully address all these issues.

In addition to the industrial action outlined above we are highlighting the appalling way you are being treated by Servest with the Contract holder Great Western Railway.

GWR and Servest are due to meet on Monday 16th January and we have made clear that we could suspend the industrial action if that meeting results in GWR commits to making changes to its cleaning contract, necessary to allow for fair settlement for our cleaner members. We are also seeking a meeting with GWR ourselves to highlight the conduct of their contractor in particular relation to allegations of threats of violence, racial abuse and discrimination toward our members.

Furthermore a petition is being distributed and we are launching a postcard and leaflet campaign to highlight your situation with the general public who will no doubt also be alarmed at the way you are being treated. The union’s finance sub-committee is also considering strike relief and we will advise you of their decision in due course.

In conclusion I urge you all to stand shoulder to shoulder and send the company a clear message that we demand a meaningful resolution to our outstanding issues. I will keep you advised of developments.

UNITY IS STRENGTH SUPPORT YOUR UNION – SUPPORT THE ACTION

Yours sincerely   Mick Cash General Secretary
