BREAKDOWN IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS – TRAIN OPERATORS PICCADILLY LINE, LONDON UNDERGROUND

Our Ref: LUL/14/2

31st May 2018

Dear Colleagues,

BREAKDOWN IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS – TRAIN OPERATORS
PICCADILLY LINE, LONDON UNDERGROUND

Following reports from your RMT Reps that industrial relations on the Piccadilly Line are regrettably deteriorating once again, I wrote to the Company in April to demand that urgent attention is given to resolving the issues. Despite this opportunity, only a bland reply has been received from the Company and reports from your Reps stated that this damaging situation and campaign of bullying and harassment cannot continue any longer.

The National Executive Committee has considered this matter and taken the decision to inform London Underground that a dispute situation exists between us over this issue and to ballot all Jubilee Line Train Operator, Night Tube Train Operator and Instructor Operator members for industrial action.

The issues which form this dispute are: insufficient driver numbers caused by management failing to properly resource the line, leading to unacceptable staffing levels on night tube and problems being able to book leave or being forced to work over your contractual hours due to a lack of spare drivers; undue pressure on Drivers from Service Control management who routinely treat driver members with contempt for adhering to the framework agreements; obstruction of your representatives’ trade union duties and restricting the release of Reps to conduct their elected role; and a draconian application of the attendance and disciplinary policies amounting to bullying and harassment.

Ballot papers will be posted to you and your colleagues on Thursday 7th June 2018 and the closing date for the ballot is Thursday 21st June 2018. Please vote as soon as you receive your ballot paper and return it in the freepost envelope provided.

If you do not receive your voting paper, or know of a colleague who has not received it, please call the freephone helpline on 0800 376 3706, RMT Head Office on 0207 387 4771 to speak to the Industrial Relations Department or e-mail info@rmt.org.uk to request a replacement.

MAKE SURE YOU USE YOUR VOTE
VOTE ‘YES’ FOR STRIKE ACTION & ‘YES’ FOR INDUSTRIAL ACTION SHORT OF A STRIKE

Yours sincerely
