CALCULATION OF HOLIDAY PAY – FIRST SOUTH WEST
It has been brought to your union’s attention that First Bus is quoting an “agreement” that it alleges has been made with RMT on the calculation of holiday pay and that this is subject of a referendum of you and your colleagues.
I would like to make it clear that this so-called “agreement” has not gone through the democratic structures of your union – it has neither had any involvement from your Regional Organiser and nor has it ever been put for consideration to your National Executive Committee, which as you know is the body which determines such matters.
Whenever your union’s NEC instructs a vote of RMT members to be undertaken – whether it is an industrial action ballot, an election of your representatives or, as in this case, a referendum – then it will be organised by the RMT and not left to an employer to decide how it is run, which questions are put to staff and who should act as a scrutineer to oversee this vote.
I am writing to the company on this matter and advising management that such an “agreement” can only be authorised by your NEC under the signature of the General Secretary or an authorised RMT Officer following endorsement. I will, of course, be requesting that this referendum be withdrawn immediately.
Your union has acted as quickly as possible on hearing about this matter and I shall write to you again in due course.
