Dear Colleague

CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR LEAVE & PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS 2017/2018 – GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY

The RMT has been in discussions with Great Western Railway over this year’s Christmas and New Year leave and pay arrangements for our members and I can now advise you that I have received a copy of the company’s proposals, which are as follows.

GWR Payment Arrangements for 24th and 31st December 2017

“The company’s intention is to run a service on both 24th and 31st December, albeit the operation on 24th December will involve some diversions in and out of London Marylebone and we will seek to cease operations on that day earlier than we would normally do so.

Having carefully considered the position the company’s proposal is to pay all grades subject to collective bargaining an enhanced premium for those colleagues who work on either or both of those Sundays.

All turns booking on at or after 00.01 and until 23.59 hours on 24th December and 31st December 2017 will be paid ‘additional’ time for the duration of that turn. For example, if the normal Sunday rate for the colleague is 1¼ (1.25%) then 2¼ (2.25%) will be paid similarly for 1¾ (1.75%) 2¾ (2.75%) will be paid etc.

For those grades that have Sunday inside the guaranteed week the time extra enhancement will be paid on rostered and overtime turns of duty commencing on 24th and 31st December 2017. Please note that the additionally enhanced rate only applies to turns commencing on 24th and 31st December 2017.

You will note that these arrangements mirror what was previously agreed for 24th and 31st December in 2006 which was the last occasion that Christmas Eve and New Years Eve fell on Sundays.”

The matter has been subject to recent consideration by the union’s National Executive Committee who has endorsed the proposals and I have informed the company that we accept the offer.

I trust this keeps you fully advised on the matter.

Best wishes.
