CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR LEAVE & PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS 2020-2021 – CROSS COUNTRY

Our Ref BR2/7/2

13th November 2020

TO ALL TRAIN MANAGERS AND SENIOR CONDUCTORS AT CROSS COUNTRY TRAINS

Dear Colleagues

CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR LEAVE & PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS 2020-2021 – CROSS COUNTRY

I write to advise you that your Company Council representatives have been in discussions with the company over this year’s Christmas and New Year leave and payment arrangements. Due to the way Christmas falls this year, Monday 28th December has been set as a substitute bank holiday and in previous years the company has paid enhanced pay for anyone rostered to work on the substitute bank holidays over the Christmas period. This time however the company are refusing to do so despite the best endeavours of your representatives.

In a year when you and your colleagues have, along with all our members working on the railway, kept vital services running and the country moving, it is the height of Scroogelike meanness to refuse to reward staff in the same way as previous years. We are only asking for parity with what has been paid previously. As a result of the company’s unacceptable position the union’s National Executive Committee has declared a dispute on this issue and instructed me to ballot you and your colleagues for strike action.

Voting papers will be sent to your home addresses by the independent Scrutineer (Civica) from next Friday 20th November 2020 and I urge you and your colleagues to vote strongly in favour of action to send the company a clear message that their meanness will not be tolerated.

The ballot will be closing on Thursday 10th December and if you or any of your colleagues does not receive your voting papers by Monday 30th November please contact the helpline on info@rmt.org.uk or on Freephone 0800 376 3706 and a replacement will be sent out to you first class.

We have told the company we are available for discussions to resolve this issue and I will ensure you and your colleagues are kept fully informed of any further developments.

UNITY IS STRENGTH

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
