CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR LEAVE & PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS 2016/17 – GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY

Our Ref: BR2/7/2

25th November 2016

Dear Colleague,

CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR LEAVE & PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS 2016/17 – GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY

I write further to my previous letter dated 21st October 2016 with regards to the above matter and where I informed you of the company’s decision to not provide any enhancements and to only pay the terms and conditions applicable to each respective grade.
The NEC has noted the views of your Company Council Representatives that this is totally unacceptable to you and your colleagues.

Your union’s negotiating team has been in regular discussions with the company to try and find a positive resolution. It is deeply disappointing that GWR feel it necessary to offer no enhancements to their hard working staff.

The National Executive Committee has recently considered this matter and has expressed their dissatisfaction at the company’s clear lack of commitment in resolving this issue. Therefore, they have instructed me to ballot you and your colleagues imminently for strike action and action short of strike. I have informed the company that we are now in dispute over these issues and remain available for meaningful negotiation to resolve these matters.

Additionally, I have been preparing a ballot matrix, in preparation for any industrial action that may be necessary. The NEC would like to ensure that all data is correct by no later than Monday 28th November 2016. Therefore, I would greatly appreciate if you could please ensure your details are accurate and up-to-date, in order to have your vote on this important issue. Any updates can be done by contacting your RMT Representative or by accessing your records on the RMT website by accessing the members area and amending them accordingly. Alternatively, you can contact our Membership Department directly by email at rmtmail@rmt.org.uk or you can call the RMT Freephone Helpline on 0800 376 3706, where someone will be able to amend your details over the phone.

Yours sincerely
