Dear colleague

CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR PAYMENT AND LEAVE ARRANGEMENTS 2020/2021 – BALFOUR BEATTY

Discussions have taken place between your union and Balfour Beatty management over the company’s proposals for payment and leave arrangements for Christmas and New Year working this year, which are as follows:

Eligibility
Applicable to all Operational staff working on the TGS, Stoneblower, Tramms & Cranes and MPV contracts, except for those on the new TGS T&Cs who will covered by the arrangements in the revised ‘blue book’.

Bonus Payments
The overall bonus will remain at £775 for a qualifying shift, however part of this will be a guaranteed retainer if staff commit to work the Christmas and New Year shifts:
If a member of operational staff is allocated to a qualifying shift Balfour Beatty will guarantee the member of staff a retainer payment of £375 (gross), regardless of any cancellation;
The additional bonus of £400 (gross) will be paid if the member of staff works the qualifying shift or if it is cancelled within 2 weeks of the shifts commencement.

Qualifying times for shifts
The qualifying times, as defined by Network Rail, are as follows:
Any shift that commences at or after 18:00hrs on Thursday 24 December and concludes on or before 08:00hrs on Sunday 27 December 2020;
Any shift that commences at or after 18:00hrs on Thursday 31 December and concludes on or before 08:00hrs on Saturday 2 January 2021 (Sunday 3rd January 2021 for Scotland).

In noting that the proposals are broadly in line with the arrangements for previous years, your negotiating team stated that this meets the aspirations of you and your colleagues and therefore recommended acceptance. Your union’s National Executive Committee endorsed this recommendation and has therefore instructed me to inform the company of this decision, which has now been done.

I trust this keeps you fully advised as to the arrangements over payments and leave for the Christmas and New Year period.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
