CLASS 360 METHOD OF WORKING – EAST MIDLANDS RAILWAY

To All East Midlands Railway Train Manager RMT Members

Our Ref: BR2/14/2

26th May 2021

Dear Colleague

CLASS 360 METHOD OF WORKING – EAST MIDLANDS RAILWAY

As you are aware, East Midlands Railway has introduced the new working arrangements for 360 units without any formal agreement with the RMT. The RMT believes that the Class 360 method of working is not safe and that a second safety critical person, preferably a Train Manager, should be in each portion of the multi unit.

Your Union is fully aware that our EMR Train Manager members are quite rightly up in arms at this careless attitude of EMR management and that you and your colleagues have made it clear that you wish to be balloted on this very serious issue.

Therefore, the union’s National Executive Committee has considered the matter and has taken the decision to immediately conduct a ballot for industrial action of all our EMR Train Manager members. The ballot for Strike Action (which may include not working 360 stock without a qualified safety critical person in each portion of the train) and Industrial Action Short of a Strike in the form of Rest Day Working Ban and Overtime Ban, will open on Wednesday 2nd June 2021 and will close on Thursday 17th June 2021.

If you do not receive your ballot paper by Tuesday 8th June 2021 then please contact the RMT Freephone Helpline urgently on 0800 376 3706 or the RMT Switchboard on 020 7387 4771 and ask for the industrial relations department, where a replacement ballot paper will be sent to you by first class post.

I trust this keeps you fully advised on the matter and I will, of course, update you on any further developments.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
General Secretary
