Dear RMT Member,
COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT, WORKING TIME REGULATIONS NIGHT WORKER CLASSIFICATION OPT OUT – BALFOUR BEATTY (CRSA)
Concerns from members have been raised regarding the impact the classification of new vehicles may have on existing rostering and overtime arrangements, affecting Welder members at Balfour Beatty (Central Rail Systems Alliance)
Your Regional Organiser has reported that, further to ongoing negotiations between Balfour Beatty and the RMT, a proposal for a collective agreement has been put forward by the company. This agreement would potentially allow members to opt out of the night worker classification under the Working Time Regulations.
The National Executive Committee has instructed me to seek a legal opinion on this matter. The proposed agreement is currently being scrutinized by the RMT’s legal team to ensure that it complies with the law and is acceptable to our members and unions. This matter will be considered to ensure that the union and affected members can make informed decisions before an agreement is signed.
I will keep members advised of all further developments in this matter.
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
