CRUNCH TIME FOR SWR MANAGEMENT - NO MORE STALLING

GENERAL SECRETARY & REPRESENTATIVES TO MEET MANAGEMENT TOMORROW

Dear Colleague,

Role of the Guard & Extension of DOO – South Western Railway

I wrote to you just over a week ago informing you SWR management had been far from honest or forthcoming in the discussions on the Role of the Guard and Extension of DOO. I went in to great detail to explain what had happened and what we expected.

Management has stalled and prevaricated time and time again and seem hell bent on putting obstacles in the way of your negotiators. This is totally unacceptable – we called off planned strike action, in good faith, and yet months down the line we have no solid agreement despite the best efforts of your Union to settle this dispute.

The National Executive Committee, as you know, has called further strike action which certainly seems to have concentrated minds at SWR. I have made arrangements to meet Andy Mellors and his team personally along with your Lead Officer Mick Tosh and your Company Council Representatives and this meeting will take place tomorrow, Wednesday 12th June in the afternoon.

It will be made clear to Management that unless positive progress is made next weeks strikes will go ahead. Your frustration at the length of time it is taking to resolve this dispute is shared by your negotiators and National Executive Committee so the ball is now firmly in SWR’s court.

Enough is Enough – We have reached agreement with other Train Operating Companies – SWR must do the same and come up with an agreement acceptable to you.

I will write to you again following Wednesday’s meeting.

Best wishes,

Mick Cash

General Secretary
