Dear Colleague,
DE-RECOGNITION – UNIPART RAIL (CREWE)
In relation to Unipart’s stated desire to de-recognise RMT for collective bargaining purposes at the Crewe site, and the strong response from RMT members in the form of a ballot for industrial action, your Lead Officer and I met with Unipart’s MD Neil McNicholas last Monday October 7th.
At the meeting, Unipart indicated that their general desire was to pursue greater efficiency in their relationship with the trade unions. With this sentiment in mind, and our shared interest in streamlining the process of pay negotiations, I have written to Unipart to ask if they would be amenable to revised collective bargaining arrangements.
A National Recognition Agreement, that continues to uphold RMT sole recognition at Southport & Doncaster, whilst preserving joint RMT-Unite recognition at Crewe, would allow pay negotiations to be conducted on a national basis. I have indicated to Unipart that this may prove a means of resolving our trade dispute.
I will keep you informed of any further developments.
Yours sincerely,
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
