Our Ref: BR2/14/1

2nd August 2024

Dear RMT Member,

DETRAINMENT, CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE ADVISORS – MTR ELIZABETH LINE (FORMERLY TRAIN SWEEPING DUTIES, CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE ADVISORS – MTR ELIZABETH LINE)

I have received an updated report from the Lead Officer that the issue relating to train sweeps/detrainment is currently being discussed with the company in the appropriate machinery. The relevant functional council representatives are meeting management to discuss these issues and to try and find a meaningful and satisfactory outcome to our concerns.

The Union’s National Executive Committee has considered this matter and noted that the matter is being dealt with in the appropriate machinery. I have been instructed to place any further developments before the NEC for further consideration on this matter.

The Union have also received reports that staff are allegedly refusing to carry out train sweeps at Paddington. No instruction of this nature has been issued by the RMT Union. Members should continue to carry out any reasonable instructions from management and continue to carry out duties as normal. Members should not refuse to undertake this work.

Furthermore, I ask that members remain vigilant to any misinformation or instruction to refuse to carry out train sweeps. All updates relating to this important issue will be sent to members using official RMT communications. This will be via RMT emails sent under ‘rmtmail’ and text messages from ‘RMTMLYNCH’. Members should ignore any communications from other sources.

I will continue to keep members advised.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch

General Secretary
