DISCIPLINARIES DURING INDUSTRIAL ACTION – SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY

Our Ref: BR2/4/4

5th June 2018

TO ALL SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY MEMBERS

Dear Colleague,

DISCIPLINARIES DURING INDUSTRIAL ACTION – SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY

I write in relation to the cases of our Commercial Guards colleagues Frank Abrahams and Steve Johnson, who were sacked by South Western Railway following a period of industrial action in our ongoing DOO dispute. We have serious concerns that the disciplinary process has been abused in both cases and furthermore believe the punishments are completely disproportionate. To this end we have demanded their immediate reinstatement.

The National Executive Committee has considered this matter and has decided to ballot all Commercial Guards members at Bournemouth and Weymouth for strike action and industrial action short of a strike in defence of your colleagues who have been appallingly treated by SWR.

Please note that for legal reasons there will be separate ballots for each workplace. Ballot Papers will be sent out to members from Tuesday 12th June 2018 with a closing date of Tuesday 3rd July 2018.

In addition to the above I have requested a personal meeting with the First Group Managing Director to discuss these cases and the shambolic way it has been handled by SWR with the aim of overturning the disgraceful dismissals. I urge our members at Weymouth and Bournemouth to strongly support their colleagues in this ballot and send a clear message to SWR that this treatment of staff will not be tolerated.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
