DISCIPLINARY, CHRIS DAVIDSON, FO2T, ST PHILIPS MARSH – GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY

Our Ref: BR2/4/4

27th September 2017

Dear Colleague,

DISCIPLINARY, CHRIS DAVIDSON, FO2T, ST PHILIPS MARSH – GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY

I am writing in relation to the above matter and further to an Emergency Resolution that was submitted to our 2017 AGM from our Bristol Branch, which was carried unanimously. The resolution highlights the outrageous and appalling dismissal of our Brother Chris Davidson.

The dismissal of our Brother is a clear example of a company treating our members with contempt and dismissing a well-respected representative who has caused the company problems by standing up and protecting our members. Chris has been dismissed after Great Western Railway accused our member of ‘misusing’ the company taxi account for the last two years. This is a complete fabrication as our member was provided access to the company taxi account as part of his reasonable adjustments to allow our Brother to attend work on a more regular basis. The company have never been misled about the use of the account and our Brother has always carried out his duties with honesty, integrity and never hid the fact that he was using the taxi account.

The National Executive Committee has considered this matter and fully recognises the sentiments of the resolution, carried at the 2017 AGM. Therefore, they have taken the decision to ballot you and your colleagues for strike action and action short of a strike, in the form of an overtime ban and a rest day working ban. I have informed the company that we are in dispute over this issue and will remain so until the immediate reinstatement of our brother to his substantive role.

It is shocking that the company have treated our Brother inexcusably in this situation, when you would be expecting GWR to do everything possible to assist members in their efforts to get to work and respect reasonable adjustments. Therefore, to ensure a swift ballot membership checks are currently underway, I urge you all to ensure your details are correct in preparation for the ballot for Strike Action and Industrial action short of a strike.
