Dear RMT Member,
DISCIPLINARY, J PICKARD, BARNHAM – SOUTHERN (GTR)
Firstly, I would like to congratulate you and your colleagues for delivering an overwhelming ballot result in defence of your colleague. This has sent a clear message to Southern (GTR), that this Union will not tolerate workplace violence. Members have rightly refused to accept punitive action against colleagues who defend themselves when faced with challenging and violent members of the travelling public.
The Lead Officer has since met with management, where he presented our request for a resolution to the current dispute. It was made clear to the company that our conditions were, the removal of the final written warning, a review of the disciplinary investigation and reimbursement of any monies lost during the suspension period. Southern (GTR) have taken these conditions away and will be inviting your Lead Officer to a further meeting on 3rd September 2024 to discuss the dispute resolution further.
The Union’s National Executive Committee has considered this matter and have welcomed the company’s approach at engaging in a meaningful discussion to resolve this dispute. However, the NEC has made it clear that should the company not provide a suitable offer and no satisfactory outcome is reached, then the NEC will not hesitate to call industrial action.
The Union’s NEC has asked that I place an updated report back before them once the meeting between the Lead Officer and company has taken place.
I trusts this keeps you advised, and I will write with further updates in due course.
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
