Dear colleague

DISMISSAL, G REYNOLDS, GUARD, BASINGSTOKE – SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY

You recently took part in a ballot for industrial action to defend your colleague Gordon Reynolds, who had been treated abysmally by South Western Railway as it had decided to dismiss him on spurious grounds rather than take his case through the B16 process.

You quite rightly delivered a magnificent vote in favour of taking action in defence of Gordon and the demand that he be reinstated and returned to his guard duties at Basingstoke.

I am very pleased to report that Gordon won his appeal hearing and will be returning to his substantive duties as a Basingstoke guard, a hearing at which he was represented by your Wessex National Executive Committee member Geoff Kite.

Your NEC has noted this development and has sent its congratulations to all involved and especially to those members who delivered such a fantastic strike vote in the ballot.

With such a positive outcome, your union is obviously no longer in dispute with the company and I have written to them on this matter.

Once again, thank you for supporting your colleague Gordon Reynolds through this very concerning period for him and for backing your union during this process.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash

General Secretary
