DISMISSAL, GARY CARNEY, TRAIN OPERATOR – LONDON UNDERGROUND

TO CENTRAL LINE DRIVER MEMBERS: Leytonstone, Loughton, West Ruislip & White City Traincrew Depots

Our Ref: LUL/4/1

21st April 2021

Dear Colleagues,

DISMISSAL, GARY CARNEY, TRAIN OPERATOR – LONDON UNDERGROUND

Further to previous correspondence, members are congratulated for a solid yes vote for strike action in this dispute over the unjustified dismissal of Brother Carney, an RMT Representative who has twenty-years unblemished service with the company.

Your Train Operator Representatives together with your Lead Officer have met to discuss the situation. The evidence provided by LUL confirms that Brother Carney was not avoiding a Drug & Alcohol Test and the manager who referred Gary for a CDI made a specific issue of Brother Carney being a trade union representative.

The consensus from your Lead Officer and Representatives was that strike action should be called on the Central Line on 6th May 2021. Gary has been the victim of a grave injustice and strike action was considered the best chance of securing his reinstatement.

The National Executive Committee has considered this matter and taken the decision to call on all Train Operators, Night Tube Train Operators and Instructor Operators at Leytonstone, Loughton, West Ruislip & White City Traincrew Depots to take strike action by not booking on for any shifts that commence between: -

  • 21:00 hours on Wednesday 5th May 2021 and 20:59 hours on Thursday 6th May 2021.

The Union remains available for further talks with the Company and I will of course keep you advised of all further developments.

STAND FIRM TOGETHER – SUPPORT THE STRIKE

UNITY IS STRENGTH

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
