DISMISSAL, K BHATTI – SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY

ur Ref: BR2/4/1

27th July 2021

Dear Colleague,

DISMISSAL, K BHATTI – SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY

I have received a resolution from our Surrey and Hants Branch and reports from our Lead Officer, and representatives, that South Western Railway has unfairly dismissed our colleague and Guards Rep Khurram Bhatti.

The Union’s National Executive Committee has welcomed the resolution from our Surrey and Hants Branch and the sentiments contained within. The NEC has again noted that we are seeing further attacks on our representatives in the workplace and that the resolution from our Surrey and Hants Branch is commendable.

Having taken into consideration the views of our representatives the National Executive Committee has instructed me to hold a ballot of all our Metro Guards and Commercial Guard members at the Guildford depot for industrial action. I have advised the company that we are now in dispute with them over this issue.

Therefore, the ballot of our Guildford Metro Guard and Commercial Guard members opens on Friday 30th July 2021 and will close on Tuesday 17th August 2021. The ballot will be for strike action and an overtime ban.

If you have not received a ballot paper by Thursday 5th August 2021 then please contact the RMT Helpline by email at: info@rmt.org.uk, or by calling the Freephone Helpline on 0800 376 3706 or the RMT Switch board on 020 7387 4771 and ask for the industrial relations department, where a replacement ballot paper will be sent to your home address by first class post. Additionally, if you are aware of a colleague who has not received their ballot paper, ask them to call one of the above numbers to update their details and to receive a replacement ballot paper.

I trust this keeps you fully advised and I will write again following any further updates.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
General Secretary
