DISMISSAL, P. BAILEY – LONDON UNDERGROUND
Further to previous correspondence, all Central Line Driver members are congratulated for the solid yes vote for both strike action and action short of a strike in this dispute. Following consultation with members, the National Executive Committee has considered this matter and taken the decision to call on all Train Operators and Instructor Operators at Hainault, Leytonstone, Loughton, West Ruislip & White City Traincrew Depots to take strike action by not booking on for any shifts that commence between:-
• 00:01 hours and 23:59 hours on Wednesday 7th November 2018.
As you know, RMT member and Union Learning Rep Paul Bailey has been dismissed from his position as a Train Operator at Leytonstone Traincrew Depot in a manner which calls into question the integrity of the entire drugs and alcohol policy and testing regime. If management are allowed to get away with this kind of behaviour and sack members at will, by making up the facts and procedures as they go along to suit themselves, it leaves all members at risk of being the next victim. This is clearly a situation which we cannot ignore.
I urge you all to support the action to demand that Paul Bailey is reinstated and make it clear to management that this misuse of policies and procedures will not be tolerated. The Company has now agreed that a Director’s Review will take place which is surely only as a result of your votes for action. I will of course keep you advised of all further developments.
