Our Ref: BR2/14/1

30th August 2017

Dear Colleague,

I am writing in relation to the above matter and further to reports received from our Surrey Hants Branch regarding the outrageous and unfair dismissal of our Brother Royston Brooks.

The dismissal of our Brother is a disgraceful miscarriage of justice as Royston has been dismissed for simply doing his duties in accordance with company polices. The company’s decision has demonstrated the company’s clear contempt for our Brother. Whilst carrying out his duties Royston was subjected to a barrage of abuse from a member of the public who was behaving in a criminal and reckless manner. Our Brother took it upon himself to inform Control that the incident had taken place and the full extent of the situation. The company should have supported our colleague for his forward thinking and ensuring the safety of everyone, rather than punishing him for doing his duty.

The National Executive Committee has considered this matter and fully recognises the sentiments contained within the branch resolution. Therefore, they have taken the decision to ballot you and your colleagues for strike action and action short of a strike, in the form of an overtime ban and a rest day working ban until Royston is fully reinstated to his substantive role.

It is shocking that the company have treated our Brother appallingly in this situation, when you would be expecting them to do everything possible to defend and protect their staff. Therefore, to ensure a swift ballot membership checks are currently underway, I urge you all to ensure your details are correct in preparation for the ballot for Strike Action and Industrial action short of a strike.
