DISMISSAL, R. BROOKS - SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY

Our Ref: BR2/4/1

TO ALL SWR COMMERCIAL GUARDS, GUARDS AND TRAIN DRIVERS AT WOKING

5th October 2017

Dear Colleague,

DISMISSAL, R. BROOKS - SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY

I am writing in relation to the above matter and further to my letter dated 26th September 2017, where I informed you of the magnificent result for both strike action and industrial action short of a strike in defence of our colleague, Royston Brooks.

As you are aware, Royston was wrongfully dismissed by the company for carrying out his duty as a safety critical guard. Royston was appealing this outrageous decision and I can now advise that our colleague has been successful in his appeal and has been fully reinstated to his substantive role at Woking.

The unions National Executive Committee has recently considered this matter and has congratulated all our members at Woking for their unwavering support of Royston. There is no doubt that the overwhelming vote you and your colleagues returned in defence of our colleague had a huge impact on ensuring Royston was fully reinstated to his substantive role.

I have now advised South Western Railway that we are no longer in dispute with the company over this issue.

Yours sincerely

General Secretary
