DISMISSAL, R HILL, REVENUE PROTECTION ASSISTANT, SHREWSBURY – ARRIVA TRAINS WALES
I wrote to you some months ago with regard to the dismissal of your colleague, Ray Hill, who was subject of an abuse of MFA Procedures by management. As you may recall at the time, your National Executive Committee had endorsed the calls from the union’s Shrewsbury Branch to carry out a ballot for industrial action to support demands for Ray’s return to work.
Despite Ray losing his appeal against dismissal, the pressure from the union representation he received along with the support from you and your colleagues has forced management to reconsider its stance on the matter.
I can now advise you that the company made an offer to Ray which he was pleased to accept. Ray, through his union representative, thanked both RMT and his Shrewsbury Branch colleagues for the support shown to him through this process and said he believed it was such support which led to a satisfactory conclusion being possible.
Your NEC has now noted that a fair settlement has been reached and that the matter is now concluded.
