DISMISSAL, REBECCA HUGHES, TRAIN MANAGER, HOLYHEAD – VIRGIN WEST COAST

Our Ref: BR2/4/1

26th September 2019

Dear Colleagues,

DISMISSAL, REBECCA HUGHES, TRAIN MANAGER, HOLYHEAD – VIRGIN WEST COAST

Further to my recent letter advising you of the ballot result, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your magnificent support for your colleague. You have delivered a huge mandate for strike action and industrial action short of a strike which can leave management in no doubt that you are prepared take action to defend Sister Hughes and will not tolerate the appalling way she was sacked by Virgin.

Talks have been held with the company but regrettably they have failed to reinstate Rebecca and continue to believe that their decision to dismiss her was just. It is abundantly clear that Rebecca’s colleagues could not disagree more.

The NEC has considered the matter and has called industrial action as outlined below: -

• All Train Managers on Virgin West Coast are instructed not to work any rest days or voluntary overtime from 00.01 hours on Thursday 10th October 2019 until further notice

I urge all members to strongly support this action and send management a clear message that the way they have treated Rebecca is unacceptable and she must be reinstated immediately.

SUPPORT THE ACTION
SUPPORT REBECCA
UNITY IS STRENGTH

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
