DISMISSAL, REBECCA HUGHES, TRAIN MANAGER, HOLYHEAD VIRGIN WEST COAST

Our Ref: BR2/4/1 23rd August 2019

Dear Colleague,

UNION BALLOTING ALL TM’S OVER DISGRACEFUL SACKING OF MEMBER

DISMISSAL, REBECCA HUGHES, TRAIN MANAGER, HOLYHEAD VIRGIN WEST COAST

Further to my previous correspondence I regret to have to inform you that despite representations made by the Union, Rebecca, a long standing member of the RMT and a long standing employee of Virgin West Coast, remains sacked. You can imagine how devasted Rebecca must be losing her employment for doing her job – and doing so with the interests of the passengers on her train in mind.

I went into great detail of the whole situation in my last correspondence and I am sure you will agree, it paints a grim picture of a management who will do anything to avoid what they see as bad publicity – despite this aggressive and confrontational passenger having previous forms of confronting staff and plastering her side of the story on social media.

I have no doubt management will use this persons ‘debatable’ disability to justify their decision to dismiss Rebecca – please do not be taken in by this – Rebecca and this union fully supports and fights for better rights and access to public transport for all disadvantaged groups, not least travellers with disabilities.

So please make sure you all use your vote in the forthcoming ballot. Vote ‘YES’ to both questions and ensure there is a massive turnout in support of your fellow Train Manager, Rebecca.

It could be you next – do not be under any allusion – Defend Rebecca.

The ballot will open next Thursday, 29th August 2019. Management have been notified of the ballot and have the opportunity to reinstate Rebecca and see sense. Let us hope this sense prevails.

I will, of course, keep you advised of developments.

Yours sincerely,

Mick Cash
