DISMISSAL, SAMEER PATEL, PADDINGTON DEPOT – RAIL GOURMET GWR CONTRACT

Our Ref: HC/4/1

14th April 2021

Dear Colleague,

DISMISSAL, SAMEER PATEL, PADDINGTON DEPOT – RAIL GOURMET (GWR CONTRACT)

I am writing further to my previous correspondence, where I had advised you that our Brother, Sameer Patel, was initially suspended for raising concerns regarding health and safety standards and then ultimately dismissed. The actions by Rail Gourmet were nothing short of abhorrent.

The union made it clear that we would be fighting this clear injustice and that we would use all legal and industrial avenues available to the union. The RMT immediately declared a dispute with the company and our Regional Organiser met with management to defend Sameer. I am pleased to announce that following representation from the union our Brother Sameer Patel has been successfully reinstated to his substantive role.

You and your colleagues have shown a tremendous amount of support for your colleague and there is no doubt that your steadfast defence and clear determination forced Rail Gourmet to take note and reverse their appalling decision to dismiss Sameer.

The Union’s National Executive Committee has considered this matter and has put on record their congratulations for our Regional Organiser, you and your colleagues, our Paddington No 1 Branch Officials and Branch members. Your actions have been commendable, and you have represented and shown true trade union and comradely spirit.

I trust this keeps you fully advised, and I will write to you again should any more issues arise.

UNITY IS STRENGTH

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
