Dear colleague

Your union has been involved in extensive negotiations with Babcock Rail over the company’s intention to put a number of staff into the government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.

The company has now outlined its proposals in writing and explained that the Furlough Scheme will commence on Monday 12th May and those on this scheme – 69 members of staff – will receive 80% of their salary (but not be subject to the £2500 per month government cap) while they are on this.

The scheme will last at least three weeks and be subject to a joint review by both your union and the company during this period and at the planned end date.

Your union’s National Executive Committee has considered the proposals and, after consulting your negotiators and representatives, has formally accepted them. The NEC has also stated that the situation should be monitored and that any further developments on the matter to be brought back to its attention.

One issue to note is that the arrangements do not apply to those identifying as Rail Systems Alliance Scotland staff.

I trust this keeps you advised of the situation and I will write again should any further developments arise in the matter.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
