Dear colleague

FURLOUGH ARRANGEMENTS – CORONAVIRUS – CLESHAR (EAST LONDON LINE CONTRACT)

It has been brought to your union’s attention that Cleshar is making an appalling attempt to include a lay-off clause under the cover of introducing its Furlough Arrangements as it looks to put staff onto the government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. Additionally, it does so while making no payments from its own funds as it is currently only offering the bare minimum of the scheme’s provisions, which means that it is being entirely funded by the government.

For a company to try such a move during this health emergency really is quite despicable and your Regional Organiser and representatives have made their feelings quite clear to Cleshar management.

Your union’s National Executive Committee has considered the matter and has rejected Cleshar’s proposals in their current form as totally unacceptable to your union. The NEC will continue to monitor this situation and has requested an updated report from your negotiators.

I will of course write to you again when further developments arise in this matter and can assure you that your union is fully focused on defending the rights of our members both during this current health crisis and will continue to do so well after it is over.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
