Dear colleague

Your union has been in discussions with Leathams over the company’s proposed Furlough Arrangements as it looks to put staff on to the government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.

While your Regional Organiser pressed your employer to offer you and your colleagues 100% of your salary for the duration of this furlough period, the company said it was unable to do so, citing the recent loss of a major contract and its reported focus on retaining as many jobs as possible when this health emergency is over.

Acknowledging the above, your union has accepted the terms of this variation to your contract that the company is asking you to sign. However, to protect yourself from any further variation and reduction of salary, I am providing you with a pro-forma which you should complete along with the form your company has issued to you.

I wish I could be writing to you with a more positive note and that I was advising you that your union had achieved our aims in ensuring all members were receiving their full salary, but we are obviously in an unprecedented situation. Please be assured, however, that your union remains committed to fighting for our members’ rights both during this crisis and we shall continue to do so well after it is over.

Please accept my best wishes to you and your families during this very worrying situation.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash

General Secretary
