FURLOUGH ARRANGEMENTS – CORONAVIRUS – CAF RAIL LTD (NTL CONTRACT)
Your union has been in discussions with CAF Rail Ltd over its plans to place staff into the government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. During the discussions, management indicated that two members of staff had requested that, as they had family members in the vulnerable category, they wished to be placed on furlough leave, which the company stated would assist in avoiding compulsory furlough leave.
However, the variance to terms the employer is proposing you accept, which will be at the minimum standard of 80% pay with all other T&C's remaining the same, can only be seen as an opportunist approach by the company to offload labour costs.
Your union’s National Executive Committee has noted the company’s proposals and additionally notes that, due to the downturn in train maintenance schedules, your representatives are in the process of agreeing a cross cover arrangement for our members to work on the TPE contract at Longsight TMD for the period of Covid 19 crisis as there is a labour shortage currently. This is to protect our members’ employment.
This is obviously a very worrying time for all of you, not only in terms of your employment but also your health and that of your friends and families. Please be assured that I and your union in general shall continue to fight for our members’ rights not just during this health crisis but well into the future also.
