Our Ref: BR2/15/10

5th May 2021

Dear Colleague,

I have received correspondence from Transport for Wales (TfW) outlining their commitment to meet with the union’s negotiating team throughout May and June. The company have also expressed their commitment to negotiate the alignment and harmonisation of cleaners carrying out duties within Wales and the surrounding areas.

The Union’s National Executive Committee has considered this matter and has instructed me to advise the company that we accept their offer for negotiations. However, the union has stated that the negotiations must be meaningful, and progress should be made in line with our cleaning members aspirations and expectations. We expect a proposal from Transport for Wales, in line with our original dispute resolution, to be received by no later than 30th June 2021, along with an acceptable date for implementation. Should negotiations become stagnant and the company fail to deliver on our expectations the union will have no choice but to enter into dispute with TfW and to ballot our TfW cleaning members for industrial action.

I will be providing an interim report to the NEC by the end of May, providing an update on the current progress of our negotiations.

There is no doubt that the determined approach taken by you and your colleagues, your branches and your representatives has led us to this position. Your actions have allowed the union to secure a timetable for negotiations and a date for a formal proposal to be received. I would like to commend you all for your unity and solidarity during these discussions.

I trust this keeps you fully advised, and I will write to you again once I have further information.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
General Secretary
