Dear Brother/Sister

PROPOSED RESUMPTION OF ON BOARD CUSTOMER SERVICES – GREATER ANGLIA

With reference to my previous correspondence dated 1st December 2020, I write to inform you that the record checks have been completed and the relevant ballot notice has been served on your employer in line with current legislation.

Consequently, the ballot will open on Wednesday 23rd December 2020 and you will need to ensure you return your voting paper by no later than first post on Thursday 14th January 2021.  In the ballot you will be asked to vote for industrial action short of a strike. I urge you to vote 'YES'.

Your RMT representatives have been in discussions since July 2020 with the company concerning the resumption of on board customer service duties. Our representatives are concerned that the company are not willing to put measures in place to ensure our members are properly protected.   Your representatives were prepared to accept that members could undertake revenue/commercial duties on a voluntary basis and include this on the Safe Systems of Work and Risk Assessment; in other words, if the members felt safe and ultimately comfortable in undertaking these tasks.

RMT wrote to the company but unfortunately it has refused to accept this reasonable position.

Your National Executive Committee has considered the matter and it has come to the conclusion that the company’s intransigence will no longer be tolerated by your union and therefore you and your colleagues will be balloted for action short of a strike.   As I am sure you are all too aware, it is vital that we achieve the highest possible turnout and the highest possible vote saying 'YES' for action, as the government's very stringent anti-union laws means that every vote counts. Therefore, when you receive you voting paper make sure you return it to the independent scrutineer as quickly as possible.   Important Please Note:  The independent scrutineer for RMT Ballots and Elections is now 'Civica Election Services' and not the 'Electoral Reform Society'. Letters from Civica are not Junk Mail and should be opened.

If you know of a colleague who is eligible to vote in this ballot and they have not received their ballot paper, please ask them to contact the helpline on 0800 376 3706 or they can email their request to info@rmt.org.uk

I trust this keeps you fully advised on the matter

RETURN YOUR BALLOT PAPER VOTE ‘YES’ FOR ACTION SHORT OF A STRIKE

Yours sincerely
