Impact of Coronavirus – P&O Ferries
Further to my letter dated 26th March 2020, I am writing to advise you that your union has been verbally advised that P&O Ferries wishes to commence a 45 day consultation. It remains a mystery as to what this consultation is about and I am yet to receive any formal notification from the company advising when the 45 days will begin. However, I have made it clear to management that any attempt to undermine jobs, pay and conditions of service during this health crisis will be met with strong opposition from this union. The union is due to meet with P&O Ferries on 2nd April.
Whilst the furlough scheme has been rolled out by P&O, this union is campaigning hard to secure as much government support as possible to ensure the long term future of our seafarers at P&O and beyond.
In these uncertain times communication is vital. I would be grateful if you could help your union keep our records accurate. If you have moved or changed jobs, or if you have a new mobile number/e-mail address you can update your details via the members' area of the RMT website www.rmt.org.uk or via the RMT app.
Throughout this crisis, the RMT's absolute priority is ensuring your safety and protecting your job. I will, of course, keep you advised of all further developments.
