Our Ref SH/14/3
20th April 2020
TO ALL RMT MEMBERS AT P&O FERRIES
IMPACT OF CORONAVIRUS - P&O FERRIES
I write in to you in relation to the above matter and following receipt of a letter from P&O’s Chief Executive Officer outlining the four ways they intend to support their business during the coronavirus Health Crisis.
Their proposals are: -
“1. Engagement with the UK government
2. Discussions with our shareholder, DP World
3. Discussions with trade unions, works councils and employees
4. Cost review analysis”
I have replied to P&O Ferries making clear that any attempt to attack members’ terms and conditions justified by the short-term coronavirus Health Crisis are unacceptable. I have also sought a guarantee that any threat of formal consultation and redundancies are removed to enable RMT and P&O Ferries to continue to work collaboratively and overcome the problems posed by the Health Crisis.
RMT is also committed to ensuring that investment from the UK Government gives assurances to the long term employment of UK ratings at P&O.
I trust this keeps you fully advised and I will inform you of any further developments on this issue when they arise.
