Impact of COVID-19 - Great Western Railway

Dear Colleague

Impact of COVID-19 - Great Western Railway

I am writing to you to in relation to the above mentioned matter in order to provide an update on the latest developments concerning the response of Great Western Railway to the Coronavirus pandemic.

It is fully appreciated that this is a worrying time for our members and accordingly I have written to the company seeking urgent assurances regarding the safety, welfare and job security of our membership.  Further I have requested that an urgent communication is issued to staff without delay in order to alleviate the understandable levels of concern and anxiety currently being experienced.

A Company Council meeting will be held on Thursday 19th March 2020 where this issue will be discussed and I hope to be in a position to provide a full and comprehensive report on the company position after then.  I will however continue to press the company to provide an update to staff before then if at all reasonably practicable.

This is obviously a stressful and worrying time, but the union is doing everything possible to ensure both you and your colleagues are kept fully informed.

In addition to the above mentioned measures RMT is in direct discussions at a national level with both the Government and Rail Delivery Group in order to seek the various assurances required for our members during this difficult period.

I will of course keep you advised of any further developments as soon as they are available.

Should you require any further information at all then please do hesitate to contact me.

Mick Cash,

General Secretary
