RATES OF PAY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2020 - HITACHI
Further to my letter dated 22nd October 2020, I can report that the LeadOfficer has been in communication with Unite on numerous occasions in order to coordinate with them across all of the relevant sites and also been in contact with the union’s negotiating team to arrange a programme of industrial action coordinated with Unite.
However, in the last few days Unite has been in negotiations with Hitachi in relation to their own spheres (Bristol, Swansea, Plymouth, Penzance) and have a new offer for those sites which they will be recommending to their members as a settlement. Consequently, the Unite National Officer has informed me they have cancelled their overtime ban and will not be notifying Hitachi of any strike action while they consult with their members.
Following our Lead Officer’s discussions with Hitachi, the company now appear to be ready to make a fresh proposal that would affect directly London North Pole and Doncaster locations (new depots) and are offering a further meeting to discuss issues affecting Craigentinny and Bounds Green (legacy depots) whereas previously they seem to have reached their final position. It is likely that the proposals developed will have distinctive elements for new depots and legacy depots.
In light of these developments and having discussed this matter with the union’s negotiating team, the union’s National Executive Committee has suspended the scheduled overtime and Rest Day Working ban while the union engages in further dialogue with Hitachi in order to reach a settlement to the current dispute.
Therefore you are instructed to work as normal from 5th November 2020.
I trust this keeps you full advised of the current situation and I will keep you informed of all developments.
