Our Ref: LUL/8/2

28th October 2021

TO ALL LUL FARRINGDON AREA STATION STAFF

DO NOT WASTE YOUR VOTE!
VOTE 'YES' TO BOTH STRIKE ACTION AND ACTION SHORT OF A STRIKE!

Dear Colleagues,

IMPOSITION OF ROSTERS, STATION STAFF, FARRINGDON – LONDON UNDERGROUND

I am writing with regards the above matter and following the below resolution from your East Ham Branch:

“This branch is appalled by the imposition of station staff rosters at Farringdon. These changes will mean a significant increase in weekend working and extreme shifts. This will have negative effects on fatigue and work-life balance.

We instruct the NEC to enter into dispute with London Underground on this issue and immediately prepare a ballot matrix with a view to balloting for strike action if the dispute is not resolved.”

Your National Executive Committee has considered the resolution and noted that the imposed rosters demand a significant increase in both weekend working and extreme early and late shifts which is contrary to LUL’s stated aim of fatigue reduction and improving work/life balance.

Your NEC further had instructed me to inform LUL that we are in dispute and to seek an urgent dispute resolution meeting. The company were informed of the dispute on 14th October 2021 and asked to convene an urgent dispute resolution meeting. Your lead officer provided an update report that no such meeting had been convened and your NEC considered the matter once more on 21st October 2021, this time instructing that members should be balloted for industrial action.

In accordance with your NEC’s instructions a ballot for industrial action will now be conducted. Ballot papers are being dispatched from tomorrow, Friday 29th October 2021 and the ballot will close on Thursday 18th November 2021.

I urge you all to vote ‘YES’ to strike action and ‘YES’ to action short of a strike to ensure a strong a mandate as possible, and to best ensure a resolution to the intolerable situation of these rosters being imposed.

If you do not receive your voting paper from the independent scrutineer by Monday 8th November 2021 please e-mail info@rmt.org.uk to request a replacement. Alternatively, call the freephone helpline on 0800 376 3706.

Important Please Note:  The Scrutineer for RMT Ballots and Elections is 'Civica Election Services' (CES). Letters from Civica are not Junk Mail and should be opened.

I trust this keeps you fully advised and I will of course keep you updated on all further developments.

Yours sincerely
